ADM Leadership visit Tesqopa, Nineveh Plain

ADM Secretary General MP Yonadam Kanna alongside Deputy Secretary General MP Imad Youkhana visited the town of Tesqopa (Teleskof). Upon arriving, the Members of Parliament were greeted by Sennacherib Branch Director Marqus Eramya, Deputy Branch Director Saher Kalah, NPU Local Commander Fuad Massoud, along with several of our Movement’s members and local residents.

The delegation was given a tour of the town in which they were led to the Church of Saint George where they met with Father Salar Bodagh. They also met with a number of dignitaries and government officials throughout their tour.

During their visit, the Movement’s delegates reviewed our people’s current situation through meetings with key figures in the town. During these meetings, residents complained about the military trenches that KRG forces are digging in agriculture lands of the town.

The delegation also discussed the problems and obstacles the town is facing, such as municipal services to serve the region and its people. Conversation also included the weak role of the Central Government in the reconstruction of the villages & towns of Nineveh Plain that were damaged under ISIS control. They concluded their visit with an inspection of the streets to promote those services needed in the region.

Assyrian Democratic Movement’s Director of the Office of Civil Society Organizations meets with Dr. Ibtisam Aziz Ali, Director General of the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department.

Ms. Shemiran Denkha, Director of the Office of Civil Society Organizations of the Assyrian Democratic Movement met Mrs. Ibtisam Aziz Ali, Director General of the Iraqi Women’s Empowerment Department in her office at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

The meeting discussed the general situation in Iraqi society, as well as challenges facing women in all areas of life. The focus was on what can be provided to women who suffered from the conditions of displacement and migration, and assist survivors of ISIS and integrate them into society.

During the meeting, Ms. Shemiran gave a detailed explanation of the Assyrian Women’s Union since its establishment, and the difficulties facing the organization. Dr. Ibtisam promised to support the Union, and concluded by expressing her satisfaction with the meeting and called for continued communication between the two entities for the betterment of Iraqi women in general.

MP Yonadam Kanna delivered his statement at the Iraqi Parliament session: organized crimes affect our people and cover up theft.

MP Kanna stated that we were surprised by the government’s position on the recurrence of crimes against minorities and Iraqi components without exposing the criminals and finding a deterrent.

“The repetition of these crimes without exposing the criminals or any deterrent measures is a cause for concern and surprise,” said the Secretary General of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, Yonadam Kanna, during a session of the Council of Representatives. He pointed out that this “reflected on the prestige of the state and undermined the confidence of the citizens.”

He stressed that the crimes that affected our Chaldean Syriac Assyrian people recently bear the mark of organized crime. “We denounce these crimes, which are indicative of hatred and organized crimes disguised as theft,” and called on the government to shoulder its responsibilities to protect innocent citizens and prosecute criminals and impose the rule of law.

MP Imad Youkhana called on the authority to intervene and stop the systematic targeting of Christians in Baghdad and calls on the international community to protect them.

mad Youkhana demanded an intervention to stop the systematic targeting of Christians in Baghdad. He stressed that what took place on Friday, March 9th, 2018 is something that cannot be tolerated, which was the fatal stabbing of Christian family in the Mashtal area of Baghdad. He stated, “The religious authority in Najaf has to issue a fatwa forbidding the killing of Iraqis in general, and Christians in particular, and punish all those who perpetrate and carry out crimes against the people of the same homeland.”

urthermore, “The government and the parliament, especially the parliamentary security and defense committee should open an immediate and urgent investigation to uncover the reality of the plot against Christians in Baghdad,”he said. “What happened over the past two weeks is systematic rather than transient.” He called on the international community to intervene and uncover these crimes, which constitute an ethnic cleansing against the Christian component in Iraq.

Iraqi Interior Ministry announces suspects in the recent Christian family murder in Baghdad

The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 the arrest of a group of people suspected of involvement in the murder of a Christian family in Baghdad.

A spokesman for the ministry, Maj. Gen. Saad Maan said in an interview with Alsumaria News, “The follow-up of the Minister of Interior and the Baghdad Operations Command arrested a number of people suspected of involvement in the murder of the Christian family yesterday in Baghdad.”

“The detainees were referred to the investigation,” Maan said.

On Friday, a doctor and two members of his family were stabbed to death after gunmen stormed his house in the Mashtal district of eastern Baghdad, according to a source familiar with the family.

Assyrian Democratic Movement’s General meeting in Dohuk

The Assyrian Democratic Movement held its General meeting at its headquarters in Dohuk on March 9th, 2018, which included the participation of the Secretary General of the Movement, the members of the Central Committee, the candidates of the Central Committee, and Senior Cadres elected for each branch and office.

The meeting discussed the general political situation in the homeland, the events of the Iraqi political arena, and the situation of our Assyrian Chaldean Syriac people in particular and its reality. The meeting also discussed the current situation of the villages and towns of our Assyrian Chaldean Syriac people after returning home due to displacement of more than three years, as well as the role of the movement at the national and international level.

he meeting also discussed the general assessment of the movement’s performance and its internal situation by touching upon necessary means of solving problems and obstacles in order to provide more efforts to the cause of our people in the land of our ancestors.

The meeting also touched upon the elections of the Iraqi Council of Representatives which will be be held on May 12th, 2018, and the running of the electoral movement through Al Rafidain Coalition.

MP Imad Youkhana discusses recent decisions from Iraqi Cabinet session led by PM Haider al-Abadi

On Tuesday, March 6th 2018, the Iraqi Cabinet held its regular session headed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi. The cabinet voted on a number of decisions including compensation for employment grades for those who left their jobs, retirees, or those discharged from their jobs from our Christian component. Voting on the decision came after previous approvals by the Prime Minister to compensate the employees of the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac and Armenian components, but the approval was not received because the decision remained with various ministries including the Ministry of Finance.

“We have submitted another request to the Prime Minister to take a decision in the Council of Ministers to include the financial allocations and employment grades in order to compensate those who left their jobs, were discharged or those who retired for the past years.” Said MP Imad Youkhana in a press release.

MP Youkhana encouraged our people who are qualified to take advantage of these decisions and to maintain their employment rights, stressing the readiness of Al Rafidain and ADM offices in the homeland and abroad to provide all the necessary facilities to achieve these benefits.

MP Yonadam Kanna’s meeting with a delegation from United Nations Electoral Assistance Division

On March 5, 2018, MP Yonadam Kanna met with the delegation from United Nations Electoral Assistance Division, which is visiting Iraq to stand with the procedures and logistical preparations for the parliamentary elections that will take place on May 12th, 2018. During the meeting, they discussed the challenges and obstacles that must be addressed both in Iraq as well as in diaspora. The importance of electoral participation amongst communities outside of Iraq was widely discussed and the importance of making decisions and procedures to facilitate their full participation and provide resources to freely vote without hardships or exploitation. In addition the two parties discussed the Iraqi political status post ISIS. The United Nations delegation was represented by Mr. Zoran Trajkovski, Chief of Staff of the Political Affairs Section, Election Support Department; Mr. Axel Winman, Head of the Iraqi Political Affairs Department in the Middle East and West Asia Department; and Pascal Rossi, Isabella Vitulani, and Najya Hashmi: Elections Affairs Specialists in the United Nations.

MP Yonadam Kanna received the Hungarian delegation visiting Iraq at his office on Wednesday, March 4, 2018

he Hungarian delegation was led by the Minister of Human Resources, Zoltan Balog. During the meeting, the two parties discussed the efforts and contributions of the Hungarian government to the Nineveh Plain towns and in particular the town of Tesqopa (Teleskof), in which the Chaldean Church is responsible for that town’s project. The Hungarian government is also making efforts in different areas to support the return of internally displaced peoples to their homes. The delegation assured to their contribution efforts towards reconstruction.

he Hungarian delegation included the Hungarian Ambassador in Iraq – Atilla Tar, Ambassador-at-Large (Hungary Helps) Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trades – Peter Heltai, and Head of Hungary’s Department for Persecuted Christians – Tristan Azbej At the end of meeting, MP Yonadam Kanna expressed his appreciation to the Hungarian government for their efforts in supporting Iraq to alleviate the suffering of the displaced people and the victims of terrorism.

MP Imad Youkhana meets with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi

MP Imad Youkhana, ADM Political Bureau member, met with Iraqi Prime Minister Dr. Haider al-Abadi. During the meeting the two discussed the budget for 2018, and its importance in relation to implementation of the government’s plans to serve Iraqi citizens as well as its positive effects on political and security stability.

MP Imad Youkhana discussed the status of our Assyrian Chaldean Syriac people, specifically in the Nineveh Plain, and stressed the importance of completely imposing the rule of law on the rest of the Nineveh Plain towns.

MP Imad Youkhana also called for urgency in paying attention to infrastructure and services, especially electricity and compensating affected people. He spoke on finding solutions to the problems of demographic changes which ensure the privacy of each region with the continuation of coexistence through the fulfilment of the decision of establishing the Nineveh Plain Province. Discussion included the creation of new municipal sections for the common components in the region, and to activate all the previous decisions which aim to benefit the region and its people.

In addition, MP Youkhana stressed the importance of continuing to provide necessary support to the Nineveh Plain Protection Units (NPU) in accordance to the huge tasks entrusted to them. Lastly, MP Youkhana stressed the importance of creating suitable conditions for holding fair elections.
